My buddy Bob Lee came over with a spare fuel pump for the start attempt on the donor Stag's engine. We did not want to use the fuel lines to avoid clogging up the carbs, so we used a plastic bottle of gas. We spent a couple of hours prepping the car and discovered that the starter was seized up. No problem, I went into the pile of parts that came with the blue car and got its starter. We tested it out of the car and it ran fine, so I installed it. The moment of truth had arrived. Would we have a runner? On the second try, she started right up with a sweet low growl that blew rust and rat's nests all over the garage. Success! Now the "heart transplant" could begin in earnest.
