Power steering leak

Another disappointing day. I decided to get the soft top out of the car while waiting on the fuel pump and ignition switch, which took quite a bit of wrangling. At least the hard tonneau cover will close now, and the car is considerably lighter! I noticed, though that there was a puddle under the front of the car. The power steering rack is leaking. Ugh.

Lots of fun in store. I did my PS about 6 months ago. I didn't take the valve apart, but the rack section is pretty easy if you have a good maintenance manual.
While you are in that part of the systems, overhaul your pump and replace your hoses. Both OH kits are available from Rimmer or Paddock. I had hoses made locally.

I just did my rack less than a month ago. The following link has helpful pictures for the process:

Scroll down and there is a list of projects, of which one is the steering rack.

Good luck,
Shane R.

Just found your Blog... I can relate to the power steering leak. I just picked up a '71. The previous owner said the rack leaked "a bit". Its more like a torrent. A steering gear rebuild is now first on the list.
Enjoy...
